About this course

Innovation is everyone’s business today. Whether you’re a manager in a global corporation, an aspiring entrepreneur in government, or an elementary school teacher, everyone is expected to get lean, to do more with less. This is why we all need design thinking. At all levels of any type of organization, design thinking provides the tools you need to think outside the box and unlock the creative possibilities that exist – you just don’t see them yet.

In this course, developed at the University of Virginia Darden School of Business and taught by leading professors, we provide an overview of design thinking and work with a model that contains four key questions and various tools to help you understand design thinking. design as a problem-solving approach. We will also look at some stories from different organizations that have used design thinking to find compelling solutions.

  • What design thinking is and when to use it

  • How to prepare to see and take action when an opportunity arises

  • How to use design thinking to generate innovative ideas

  • How to take the many ideas you generate and determine which ones are likely to produce specific, desired outcomes
